Bytown Dodgers Baseball Club December 2017 Update

Updated 2018/01/10: tryout times have been adjusted!!!

Ottawa baseball has been very busy over the past few months. The Bytown Dodgers Baseball Club (BDBC) has been represented at several meetings for the National Capital Ontario Baseball Association (NCOBA) determining any rule changes, leagues, and boundaries for the 2018 season.

The Dodgers are happy to announce our official boundary! While mainly in Orleans, our boundary stretches from Blair Road to Hawkesbury. There is map to help everyone determine their location within our designated boundary on the website.  Players not in our boundary require a release from their home organization to play with the Dodgers.  Releases are not required from Little League organizations, only OBA teams. Most of the Ottawa region is now represented by one of 6 OBA teams in the NCOBA association. See the website at: https://bytowndodgers.com/player-boundary-releases/ for more information.  Under NCOBA agreements, releases should be freely granted to any player wishing to play for the BDBC instead of their home team.

2018 tryout locations, dates, and times have been set. Please attend AT LEAST 1 Hitting evaluation, and 1 Pitching/Fielding evaluation. Players are more than welcome to come to all evaluation periods.

Please register for tryouts on the website: https://bytowndodgers.com/joining-bdbc/2018-tryout-registration/. Players registered online will receive a $5 discount off of the tryout fee of $25.  The tryout fee is payable in cash or by cheque at the first tryout attended.

As an organization, the Dodgers are planning on running a team at 6 levels offered by the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA). Team formation is dependent on sufficient player availability.

2018 team eligibility:

Mosquito - Players born 2007 & 2008
Peewee - Players born 2005 & 2006
Minor Bantam - Players born 2004
Major Bantam - Players born 2003
Minor Midget - Players born 2002
Major Midget - Players born 2001

*In OBA female players are allowed to play 1 year down.

Midget and Bantam teams will likely play in the EOBA, (http://eoba.net/) either fully, or partially with a local NCOBA loop depending on the number of NCOBA teams at each level. There are not likely to be enough NCOBA teams to form an independent local loop.  NCOBA teams have played in the EOBA loop for the last 2 seasons, and it offers some good competitive baseball. Past NCOBA teams have generally finished in the upper half of their respective divisions.

Mosquito and Peewee will likely play in in a combined loop with ABEO (Gatineau http://abeobaseball.ca/). This has been the structure for the last couple years as there are not likely to be enough NCOBA teams to form an independent loop.  If there are enough teams, a NCOBA only loop could be formed, play with EOBA could also be possible if a joint loop with ABEO is not formed.

Cheers!
